The story begins in the mid-1990s when Pauline and her siblings discovered descendants of one of their father's brothers in the Netherlands, which opened the door to family secrets and mysteries around their Jewish heritage, World War II, and the Holocaust. Through the years, Pauline managed to forge relationships with these newly-discovered family members, and in the process, learned the truth about her family's past. The epic story concludes with an epilogue about the newest generation of her extended family and its continued growth.
Pauline Loewenhardt is an author, editor, occasional teacher, gardener, parent, grandmother, and lover of life. She is the author three books, many magazine articles, and several essays. After retirement from a long professional nursing career, during which she wrote for textbooks and peer-reviewed journals, Pauline turned to writing creative non-fiction. She has always loved stories and ultimately decided she had a story worth telling the world. Throughout her life, she always enjoyed writing and began as a reporter at her Mackenzie high school newspaper. During the past few years she wrote travel, gardening and health related articles, book reviews, personality profiles and has been published in local magazines such as Tampa Bay Woman, Senior Connection, as well as the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper, The Women’s Review of Books, and Bookwomen. She has published two previous books: Alaska Adventure with Joe and Linda, the story of a trip to Alaska with her son, Joe and his wife-to-be, Linda, was published in 2012. The second was a book about her beloved chorus, The Gaia Women of the Great Lakes Basin titled: Singing Our Way Home, published in 2015.
Pauline is a lover of the outdoors, poetry, kayaking, children, grand- children, music, writing, stories of all kinds, Detroit, digging in the dirt, good fresh natural food, all seasons of the year, plays, and books. She is a polio survivor, mother, grandmother, Lesbian, Feminist, Unitarian, and lover of life.
